In a record-breaking year for the Green Flag Award Scheme, as it marks its Silver Jubilee, four of Ferryhill Town Council’s facilities are among a record breaking 2127 UK parks and green spaces across the Country, that have received this year’s prestigious Award, which is the international mark of quality for parks and open spaces.
After 18 months that have seen parks and green spaces play a vital role for people through the lockdowns as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family safely, the news that Mainsforth Sports Complex, King George V Playing Field, Surtees Doorstep Green and Duncombe Cemetery have achieved a Green Flag Award is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that make these spaces a place that everyone can enjoy.
Commenting on the news that Mainsforth Sports Complex, King George V Playing Field, Surtees Doorstep Green and Duncombe Cemetery had achieved the Green Flag Award standard, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said:
“I would like to congratulate everyone involved in maintaining these sites, ensuring that they are worthy of a Green Flag Award.”
“To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is testament to the hard work of the staff and/or volunteers who do so much to ensure that the parks and green spaces that they manage have high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives.”
Town Mayor of Ferryhill, Councillor David Farry said: “The Town Council is absolutely delighted to receive Green Flag Awards for four of its facilities. Quality green spaces matter to both residents and visitors alike, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining these sites to such a high standard. I would like to congratulate the Town Council’s staff for a job well done, and to mark the occasion, Ferryhill Town Council with be joining other Green Flag organisations across the Country, by turning the Town Hall green on the evening of Thursday, 14th October.”
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. It recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
