Duncombe Cemetery is the only cemetery available in Ferryhill for burials. Ferryhill Town Council has been providing the facility for over 100 years and is currently in the process of substantially improving and extending the area.
Land adjacent to Duncombe Cemetery was purchased by Ferryhill Town Council in 2002 to create an extension to the existing cemetery.
Duncombe Cemetery has benefitted from substantial investment over the years having seen external grant funding totalling in excess of £100,000 being raised to develop much sought after Memorial and Ashes Gardens, a new Car Park and a footpath link to the neighbouring Carrs Nature Reserve, which is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI).
Anyone interested in purchasing a plaque of remembrance, at Duncombe Memorial Garden, is invited to contact the Town Hall to make arrangements. Plaques are available at a cost of £190 plus VAT which includes inscription. Please download an application form to apply.
Families can also purchase granite benches for installation in the Memorial Garden complete with an epitaph of remembrance for £520 plus tax and inscription.
A single plot can be purchased in the Ashes Garden for caskets of ashes. Once buried in the ashes garden, a granite plaque can then be purchased from a local Stonemason to mark the plot where the ashes are buried. Plaques must sit on top of the plot and be flat to the ground. Prices for the ashes garden can be found in the latest Burial Fees Document for 2020.
For more information or to purchase a plaque of remembrance, please contact Ferryhill Town Council on tel: 01740 652157.
A small Heritage Centre ran by the Ferryhill History Society has been developed in the former chapel building at Duncombe Cemetery. Heritage Days are held at the Centre throughout the year and Schools in the Town use the facility as an additional learning resource. Plans to relocate and expand the Heritage Centre to the old Bungalow at Dean Bank Park are currently being pursued thanks to a cocktail of funding having been secured to deliver the project. For more information about the History Society contact Geoff Wall at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Duncombe Cemetery is one of four sites owned by Ferryhill Town Council to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award. The Cemetery has retained this award since 2010. For more information about the Green Flag Scheme please visit the Green Flag website.
