Christmas Lights to Return to Ferryhill Town Centre
Ferryhill Town Council is delighted to announce that Christmas lights will return to the town centre this year.
Last year, festive lighting could not be installed on the town’s lighting columns after structural testing found they could not safely support the additional weight of the previous decorations. The lighting columns, which are owned by Durham County Council, remain safe for their intended use but were not suitable for carrying our original decorations.
Since then, Ferryhill Town Council has worked closely with Durham County Council to find an alternative solution.
We are pleased to confirm that lighting wraps have now been approved, meaning the town centre will once again be lit up this Christmas.
Councillor Curtis Bihari, Mayor of Ferryhill, said:
“Last year was a real disappointment, so we were determined to make sure it didn’t happen again. By working closely with Durham County Council, we’ve found a safe solution that means festive lighting will return to Ferryhill town centre this Christmas.”
Paul Anderson, Durham County Council’s Strategic Highways Manager, said:
“We have worked closely with Ferryhill Town Council and agreed that lighting wraps will be installed on the town’s lighting columns from this year. Structural assessments have already been carried out to make sure the columns can accommodate these new lights, ensuring the town has festive decorations for this Christmas and in years to come.”
