To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee various events were held throughout Ferryhill.
Beacon Lighting
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons was one of the official events of the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 as part of an extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June. The Jubilee Beacons provided an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth, to come together to celebrate this historic milestone.
There is a long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons. A beacon chain, once used as a tool for communication, has now become a symbol of unity across towns, borders, countries and continents and is often the central point of focus for any outdoor gathering or celebration.
Ferryhill joined in the celebration by lighting its own beacon in the Town Hall garden on Thursday, 2nd June 2022. The celebrations began at 9.20 pm and concluded with the beacon being lit at 9.45 pm to coincide with the lighting of other beacons throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories and the Commonwealth.
Party in the Park
A Party in the Park was held at Dean Bank Park on Saturday 4th June from 11.00am – 8.00pm. This provided an opportunity for local people of all ages to celebrate Her Majesty’s Jubilee.
The Party included live music performances from the different decades in which the Queen has reigned, with a range of activities and competitions for children including vintage games, inflatables and Nat Lunatrick Circus Performance.
The family orientated event also had refreshments and street food vendors, including afternoon teas. Residents were encouraged to bring their own picnic.
