Ferryhill Town Council Reveal Designs for Miner’s Lamp Sculpture for Ferryhill Station
Following a series of Community and School Workshops, with professional Sculptor, Andrew McKeon (who also designed the Davy Lamp Sculpture at Bowburn), Ferryhill Town Council are pleased to reveal designs for a 4-meter-high Miner’s Lamp Sculpture, to be installed on land known locally as Surtees Corner, at Ferryhill Station.
The designs, which will commemorate the rich mining heritage of the Town has been designed in the style of the Geordie Lamp (sometimes called a Stephenson Lamp), and will incorporate mining occupations and terms, that are specific to the Durham Coalfield area engraved around the column of the lamp. Anyone with any suggestions for mining occupations that could be included in the lamp design, are asked to complete a comments form at Ferryhill Town Hall, where designs will remain on display until 26th March.
