Ferryhill Town Council Secures Grant Funding for Capital Projects
Ferryhill Town Council is celebrating having secured external grant funding to enable several projects to be delivered in the Town.
£10,000 has been secured to renovate the Bowls Green at Mainsforth Sports Complex, which has deteriorated over the years and become diseased in places. Monies will also be used to improve the Football shower facilities at Mainsforth, which are in desperate need of an upgrade. £5,000 was secured through County Councillors Joe Quinn and Paul Mountford’s Local Network Fund allocations together with £5,000 secured through Sport England’s Movement Fund.
£3,350 was also secured through County Councillors Joe Quinn and Paul Mountford’s Local Network Fund allocations, to enable the Town Council to purchase a new trailer. The trailer will be used to transport equipment, machinery and supplies between the Council’s various sites, enabling staff to maintain the Town’s Parks and Cemetery more efficiently.
Monies secured through the Football Foundation to carry out a six-year Programme of Pitch Maintenance works on the Football Pitches at Dean Bank Park and Mainsforth Sports Complex are now in their fourth year. This year £20,201 has been spent on improving the pitches, £9,600 of which was secured through the Football Foundation for year 4 works across both sites. In Total the Football Foundation awarded a grant of £57,598 for the six-year programme of works. All pitches were rated ‘Advanced’ by the FA at their last inspection in June 2026, which is a vast improvement on their initial ‘Basic’ Rating received four years ago. With further maintenance works planned, it is hoped that this rating can be maintained for years to come.
Ferryhill Town Council will continue to apply for external grant funding to deliver projects in the Town. Following the successful regeneration of Dean Bank Park Play Area, which recently attracted £90,000 grant funding through the Landfill Community Fund, the Town Council has agreed to prioritise the regeneration of the King George V Playing Field, known locally as the Broom Rec. as its next large project. A community consultation exercise has already been undertaken in the area and funding will be applied for in the coming months.
Mayor, Councillor Curtis Bihari said ‘Ferryhill Town Council is extremely grateful to all external funders, who have supported the Town Council to deliver capital projects. Hopefully, more grant funding can be secured moving forward, to enable further improvements to be delivered that will benefit the Town and local community.’
