Ferryhill To Mark 100th Anniversary of Town’s War Memorial
To mark the 100th Anniversary of the unveiling of the Town’s War Memorial, Ferryhill Town Council will be hosting a short memorial service at 10.45am on Saturday, 1st February 2025, in the Town Hall garden. Originally unveiled by Brigadier General H.C. Surtees on 31st January 1925, the War Memorial comprises a statue of a Durham Light Infantry Soldier resting on his rifle, standing on a plinth inscribed with the names of the soldiers commemorated.
Mayor, Councillor Carole Atkinson will commence the proceedings on 1st February, which will be followed by a service and prayers by Reverend Christopher Humble representing the Methodist Church. At the end of the service, Andrew Potts from Ferryhill Town Band will play ‘Last Post.’
