Policing in Ferryhill
Angus Ferguson our Mayor and Chair, along with Leeanne Owens, Ferryhill Town Clerk met Rachel Hills the Community Policing Inspector for Ferryhill and PCSO Jo Walbey to discuss policing in Ferryhill and the progress of the Safer Streets Initiative (SSI) in particular. The good news is that extra funding for SSI has been awarded to continue the initiative until the end March 2026. Inspector Hills is also going to send us data about the successes of the initiative so watch this space!
You may also have noticed that the levels of shoplifting in the town centre has reduced? This is a direct result of the hard work, much of it behind the scenes, of our town’s police officers and PCSOs and their successful prosecutions in the courts. They’re also acutely aware of re-offending once the offenders are released. They keep a close eye on them and are themselves frustrated with the length of sentences and limits on recall of those recently released from prison.
Thank you to Rachel and Jo for all of your hard work.
