Large Turnout for Ferryhill’s Annual Christmas Fayre & Official Christmas Lights Switch On
Ferryhill Town Council would like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and supported its Christmas Fayre on Friday, 28th November. A special thank you to Baccanalia for organising this year’s Christmas Market and to all the stallholders who attended to sell their products, to Turners Fun Fair for providing show rides, to the Town’s Primary Schools for their fantastic Carol Singing in the Town Hall garden, and to Glittery Girl face-painter Dawn Belshaw, children’s entertainer, Mr Windbags, and not forgetting Santa who took time out of his busy schedule to greet local children in a special grotto inside the Town Hall.
Despite the bitter cold weather conditions hundreds of people turned out for this year’s Christmas Fayre event and watched on, as Elijah Rome, from Broom Cottages Primary School switched on the Town’s Christmas Lights accompanied by Mayor, Councillor Angus Ferguson. Councillor Ferguson said ‘It was lovely to see the community of Ferryhill come together to enjoy the Christmas Fayre with all its activities. It was great to see that the cold weather didn’t deter people from attending the event, which shows what an amazing community Ferryhill really is. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated and attended this year’s event, which also managed to raise £60 through the Tombola Stall for my chosen charities; Little Treasures Autism Charity and Stray Aid.’
The Town Council also has additional festivities planned in the run up to Christmas including a Mayor’s Civic Christmas Carol Service at St Luke’s Church on Monday, 8th December starting at 6.00pm, which will include a performance by Ferryhill Town Band with singing by local children attending Cleves Cross Primary School. Light refreshments will be served in the Church Hall after the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Also, in the run up to Christmas there will be carol singing by local School children in the Town Hall garden (details to follow) and Santa Claus has confirmed that he will be making a special visit to the Town’s Primary Schools to hand out selection boxes.
The Town Council is also pleased to announce that the winners of this year’s ‘Design a Christmas Card’ Competition are as follows:
1st Place – Hannah Hale, who receives a £50 Amazon Voucher and whose picture will become the Town Council’s official Christmas Card for 2025.
2nd Place – Matilda Jane Heaviside, who receives a £30 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – Brax Macdonald-Morris, who receives a £20 Amazon Voucher
