Coffin Dodgers donate £300 to Little Treasures
The Mayor of Ferryhill, Cllr Angus Ferguson met the Coffin Dodgers, a group of well, ‘gentlemen coffin dodgers’ who drink whisky for charity, at the Wheatsheaf pub in Chilton. Along with Angus was Clare Wilkinson of Little Treasures who gladly accepted the donation on behalf of the charity. Clare described the donation as ‘amazing’ and thanked the gentlemen for their remarkable charitable work. Cllr Ferguson said: “I am so grateful for the generous donation to my Mayor’s Charity from this group of remarkable and humble men. Such an original way of raising money for charity”.
The Coffin Dodgers buy a bottle of whisky between them, then charge each other a sum for each dram, the sum of which will eventually exceed the price paid for the bottle. The balance is donated to charity. In the meantime, they have a great evening chatting with old mates. Overall, the Dodgers have raised over £10,000 for local charities.
After donating a fine bottle of single malt, the Mayor again thanked the gents for their efforts and remarked: ‘long may you continue to dodge your coffins and Slàinte mhaith!’ Meaning ‘Good Health’ in English).
