In a recent cheque presentation held at Ferryhill Town Hall, Councillors Stephen Bowron and Curtis Bihari presented a cheque for £325 from their Members Initiative Fund (MIF) allocations to representatives from the Ferryhill Miners Banner Committee.
The Banner Committee comprise a group of volunteers and descendants of Miners who fund raise throughout the year, to finance events taking place around the Annual Durham Miners Gala weekend. The Committee will use the funding secured through the MIF to cover costs associated with transporting the Dean & Chapter and Mainsforth Colliery Banners to Durham for the Miners Gala, and also for costs associated with Ferryhill Town Band, who lead Ferryhill’s Banner Procession through Durham City to the Miner’s Gala main event, which this year will be taking place on Saturday, 8th July.
Councillors Bowron and Bihari said ‘We are delighted to be able to support the Ferryhill Banner Committee. The group work tirelessly to fundraise for events that celebrate the mining heritage of the area, and we are only too pleased to support them.’
Funding is still available through the Members Initiative Fund, for more information please contact Karen Younghusband at Ferryhill Town Hall on telephone: 01740 652157 or Email: kyounghusband@ferryhill.gov.uk
