Mainsforth Sports Complex
Mainsforth Sports Complex is situated on the eastern edge of Ferryhill on the site of the former Mainsforth Colliery. Ferryhill Town Council secured ownership of the site in 2001 but has been responsible for its maintenance since as far back as 1974.
Ferryhill Town Council and Mainsforth Cricket Club are thrilled to announce that the new Sports Pavilion at Mainsforth Sports Complex in Ferryhill is now officially open. The Pavilion which is owned by Ferryhill Town Council but leased long term to Mainsforth Cricket Club can be hired for events and functions, for meetings and by community and sports groups. The new facility, which was officially opened on Thursday, 11th June by Paul Collingwood MBE, was the result of five years of planning to design building and secure the funds required to replace what was a dilapidated old Cricket Pavilion. The project was funded by Ferryhill Town Council, Mainsforth Cricket Club, Lafarge-Tarmac Ltd, Sport England, The ECB and individual Councillors who contributed monies through their Neighbourhood Budgets. Contractors and Sub-Contractors worked tirelessly on the building, especially TB Tarn and Eurokit and the project was managed by Sports Clubhouses.
Costing £400,000, the new building is already the envy of other Clubs in the area. Bookings for the Pavilion are coming in thick and fast and the impact on grassroots sport, especially Cricket, promises to be enormous as more and more young people become encouraged to participate.
Mayor of Ferryhill Town Council, Councillor Pauline Crathorne said “this project is an excellent example of what can be achieved when the local community work in partnership with the Town Council. The new Pavilion provides an outstanding facility which can be used and enjoyed by the whole community. It is a credit to the area. A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved with the project.”
