Portfolio Holder - Councillor Bernie Lamb
Duncombe Cemetery is the only cemetery available in Ferryhill for burials. Ferryhill Town Council has been providing the facility for over 100 years and is currently in the process of improving and extending the area.
Land adjacent to Duncombe Cemetery was purchased by Ferryhill Town Council a number of years ago to create an extension to the existing cemetery.
The last few years has seen Duncombe Cemetery benefit from funding grants in excess of £100,000. £74,000 alone has been awarded by the Countryside Agency and Lafarge Aggregates to enable Ferryhill Town Council to develop a much sought after Memorial Garden for the town.
Complete with high surrounding walls, to define the garden area, the Memorial Garden incorporates a central grassed area with planted borders, including scented flowerbeds, marble seating, ornamental water feature with fountain and polished, granite wall tablets complete with blank plaques of remembrance.
Now complete, Ferryhill Town Council would like to invite anyone interested in purchasing a plaque of remembrance, at Duncombe Memorial Garden, to contact the Town Hall to make arrangements.
Plaques are available at a cost of £150 plus VAT which includes inscription. To download an application form <<click here>>.
Families can also purchase granite benches to go in the Memorial Garden with an epitaph of remembrance for £400 plus VAT and inscription.
For further details about the proposed developments at Duncombe Cemetery, or to purchase a plaque of remembrance, please contact Ferryhill Town Council on 01740 652157.
Plans are also being developed to convert the former chapel building at the cemetery into a Heritage Centre to be run by Ferryhill History Society. A grant secured from Awards for All has already paid for new doors to the building, which is is the first step in the project. Additional grants are currently being applied for to provide a footpath link to the nearby site of special scientific interest, Ferryhill Carrs and a car park.
